Day 1. Dive from Entebbe / Kampala to Kasese – Uganda.
Day 2. Climb from Nyakengija – 5400ft / 1646 m to Nyabitaba Hut – 8700 ft / 2652 m.
Day 3. Climb from Nyabitaba to John Matte hut – 11200 ft / 3415 m.
Day 4. Climb from John Matte to Bujuku Hut 13000 ft / 3962 m.
Day 5. Climb from Bujuku Hut to Elena Hut 14,700 ft / 4430 m.
Day 7. Nyabitaba Hut- Nyakalengija.
Day 8. Move Down to Kasese Town.
Day 9. Drive back to Entebbe / Kampala.
Take early breakfast in the morning at you hotel and we pick you at 07:00am and begin driving to the great mountains in the region in Kasese region. We will buy all the food supplies we need on this big safari and reaching. On arrival in Kasese town, you will go on to register with the Rwenzori Mountaineering Services center and the drive on to the lodge for dinner and resting.
Take an early morning breakfast at the lodge and then we drive to the park headquarters in Ibanda, and the Rwenzori Mountaineering Services at Nyakalengija to hire the required equipment for climbing or hiking and get guides and porters. Start moving up to Nyabitaba Hut and stop here for the night and rest. Enjoy the view here and take pictures. This takes about 5 – 8 hours hiking depending on the hikers’ speed and health. You should be really healthy to do mountaineering because it needs good energy.
Move from Nyabitaba hut to Kurt Shaffer Bridge through Bujuku and Mubuku rivers, this area is slippery and really steep but we keep moving up to John Matte hut area. Here we rest for the night. Enjoy the view and take pictures in the Rwenzori Mountains. This may about 8 hours hiking.
Take some breakfast and start moving to Bujuku Hut and this may take about 3 – 6 hours hiking. As you move from John Matte you will cross River Bujuku and the Bigo bog as you move through the dry ground heading to a great feature and that is Lake Bujuku looking at Mt. Baker and Speke moving northwards. Go with the trail and reach Bujuku Hut. Stop here for the night.
Move from Bujuku Hut and reach Scott Elliot and proceed to Elena Hut, which makes the end of the central circuit yet the beginning of climbing to the Margherita Peak – 16763 ft / 5109 m or say Mt Stanley. Move through the central circuit and through the alpine area with sparse vegetation heading to the crater lakes and move down to Lake Kitandara Hut. Stay here for the night and resting. Reminder: Do not forget that it requires you 2 good extra days to climb up to the peaks.
Move downwards from Lake Kitandara Hut leaving the Margherita peak northwards looking into the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west. Enjoy the magnificent sights into the Congo Tropical Forests region. Keep moving down and reach the Guy Yeoman Hut area and you are now standing at this height from the mountain base 10700 ft / 3261 m.
Move down to Nyabitaba Hut moving through the thick-deep mud and thus crossing river. This may take about 7 – 8 hours and may take you another 3 – 4 hours once you decide to move down up to Nyakalengija and do not forget you should be in good health to make this long return journey.
Move from Nyabitaba Hut to the Nyakalengija area at the park headquarters, hand back all that we got from there and then we drive back to Kasese town to your lodge for resting and dinner.
After breakfast in the morning, we relax for a short while as we pack our bags and begin driving back to Entebbe or Kampala to your hotel. We will drive you to the airport the following day depending on your departure time.
